John 3:36

SEEING WHAT IS SAID - Or does not say
BELIEVING IN JESUS

John 3:36 (NKJV) He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

It's quite possible that many of you who read this, if not everyone, read this passage like this:

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe in the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Did you catch the extra word? By adding one little two-letter word we change the meaning. Some may not have read the word IN but your mind took the meaning of the passage as if it said: "does not believe IN the Son". Let's look at how the meaning changed.

If we read it with "does not believe IN the Son" what we establish is those who believe IN will see life but those who do not believe IN will not see life. This statement is not untrue but it's not what's being said and misses the very point that Christ was trying to establish.

By removing that "IN", and saying what Messiah Yahshua actually said, the truth we find, tucked into the very chapter of the most popular Bible passage in the world, is a statement that says those who believe in the Son will have life but those who do not obey the Son will not see life (some translations have appropriately made that change).

That fact that we believe IN the Son is a start but we must also believe what He says; which means we follow what He says. If you believe but do not follow then your belief is in vain.
