ABIDING WITH FRUIT - Part 1 of 5

John 15:6
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”

There are a number of things that one must consider when wanting to fully understand a parable of Christ’s: culture, law, events at the time of the parable, the building of one parable upon the other, are just a few of those things one must look at.

When we look at the parable of abiding in the vine (John 15:1-8), we see three important things that should cause us to want to dig. First, Y’shua is talking about those who are already abiding; because we see two failures of the branches (our lives), which cause us to be cut off and cast out. It’s these’s two failures that are the other two important things to consider: one is for not abiding and the other for the lack of production of fruit.

In verse 6, we see those who do not abide are cast out; and cast into the fire. All agree that the fire is a symbol of hell; therefore, those who do not abide in Christ will be cast into hell. But, what does it mean to abide? In order to understand what abide is, we need to stack the parables that are in relation to this.

In the parable of “Swept Clean and Empty” (Matt 12:40-45), we see the queen of the south seeking after Solomon with all she has (Matt 12:42); yet, one greater than Solomon has come, and we should be seeking after Him with all we have.
