Y'SHUA TAUGHT OLD TESTAMENT?

The following Scriptures are statements made by Christ in what we call “The Sermon on the Mount”; Y’shua’s first sermon of his ministry.

“ You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment. ’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment
(Matthew 5:21-22 NKJV)

“ You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery. ’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart
(Matthew 5:27-28 NKJV)

“ Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce. ’ 32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery
(Matthew 5:31-32 NKJV)

“ Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord. ’ 34 But I say to you, do not swear at all:neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let your “Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No. ’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one
(Matthew 5:33-37 NKJV)

“ You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. ’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also
(Matthew 5:38-39 NKJV)

“ You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. ’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven
(Matthew 5:43-45 NKJV)

It’s becoming an ever increasing popular belief and teaching that Christ did not teach New Testament teachings because He had to follow Old Testament Law. I’ve even heard it taught, by big evangelist, that we do not listen to Christ’s teachings, we listen to Paul’s. Did Y’shua teach and act upon Old Testament teaching?

Six times in one chapter, in one sermon, in His first sermon, Christ said the phrase, “You have heard that it was said,... But I say to you,...”. Therefore, from the beginning of Y’shua’s ministry, we see Him taking the Old Testament Laws, and the Old Testament rituals, and changing them to a new meaning; a New Testament meaning.

The very reason that Christ and the pharisees were always at each other is because Christ did not follow Old Testament Laws and customs. Y’shua and His disciples picked grain to eat on Sabbath, they ate with unwashed hands, and by all rights, according to Old Testament Law, the harlot was suppose to be stoned; yet, Christ gives her compassion while condemning those so eager to stone her.

Everything that Christ said and did was not based on Old Testament Laws and standards but rather based on New Testament Laws and standards.

The main reason why the teaching of Christ having to follow Old Testament Law is because man does not want to follow what Christ commanded. Those who teach that we do not follow the teachings of Christ are anti-christ and will remain accursed unless they repent. Christ spoke and acted according to God (John 5:19; John 12:49-50); and those teaching against these teachings will be judged harshly by God.

Jesus answered them and said, “ My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him
(John 7:16-18 NKJV)
