And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." 19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. Genesis 2:18-20

People often mention how God made a comment about man being alone and then has adam name the animals before making him a wife. When you see odd things like this, look closer because there could be some
treasure here. The fact is, this is a Chiastic Structure.

The structure is bookended by Adam being alone and no helper found for him. As we work in we see the animals and the middle of the structure we see "whatever "ha'adam called each living creature, that was its name". If you've studied up on how to read Chiastic Structures, you'll understand that the center is a treasure that the author wants you to discover.

What is such a big deal about ha'adam naming animals?

After God formed woman from man, ha'adam called her issa because she come from iys. He called her by WHO she was. She was his helper, part of himself. After the fall of man we see ha'adam, call her haww
a, which is life giver or the one who would give birth. He no longer called her by WHO she was, part of himself, but now he's calling her by WHAT she can do. And, for the first time, we see the result of sin start to affect how we define each other.

I fully believe this is the intent of the author to the original audience. The Torah was written to a group of people who found their value in what they did after being slaves and forced to make bricks. Genesis 1 is absolutely littered with images towards rest. He's showing His people that their day starts with rest and they are not defined by what they do. In chapter two and three we are given an image of where this value based on what we do started - it's a result of the fall. The Chiastic Structure is telling the audience to notice how the view of ha'adam changed after the fall. He no longer saw her by who she was but now he seen her by what she can do.

This is a curse still today. The reason why we will accept a friend making a mistake against us more than we can our spouse is because of how we see them. Our friend we see as a friend but our spouse should have known better than TO DO… In our marriages we have ideas about who does what and who should not do a thing. The fact is, we share any and all responsibilities and we should remember, when our spose messes up, they are the one who completes us in the image of God. We don't define them by what they can do, we define them by who they are.

Let us remember that our value is not in what we can do but rather WHO we are. Whether man or woman, we are created in God's image and we both came from the same source - ha'adam.
